ba·sic
/ˈbāsik/
adjective
forming an essential foundation or starting point; fundamental.
Establishing a strong and resilient foundation is an essential philosophy for all building and developmental endeavors.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
Aristotle
“You can't build a great building on a weak foundation. You must have a solid foundation if you're going to have a strong superstructure.”
Gordon B. Hinckley
Foundation - Core Competencies
Credit and honor goes to my friend James McFarland and, of course to youth development specialist and Professor of Pediatric Exercise Science, Avery D. Faigenbaum, Ed.D., CSCS.
After only two strength cycles (8 weeks) focusing on squat mechanics, power cleans, strictly proper posture on push ups, rows, planks and good mornings; and these Alpine racers are well prepared for the up coming training season.
I’m astounded by how practicing the basics of Olympic Weightlifting can so directly effect the movement qualities desired for rudimentary physical literacy (Squat-Push-Pull-Hinge-Brace-Carry). Only now, with consistent and efficient movement mechanics can we begin to get strong.
Technical Video Tutorials on Weightlifting
I’m often asked for technical advice for improving an athletes movement patterns of the Clean and Snatch lifts. Over the past few years I’ve accumulated some teaching videos to help illustrate efficient technique and offer exercise suggestions you can practice.
Have a look and check back regularly as I’ll continue updating the playlist with additional videos and technical explanations.

“Outlive"
By Dr. Peter Attia, MD
The Science & Art of Longevity
As an Oncologist Dr. Attia speaks of his passion to help patiences, but learned that, as he calls Medicine 1.0 is too late in it’s application. Working at curing disease after it’s taken a hold of us. Instead Dr. Attia asks us to look at the Four Horseman - Cancer, Heart Disease (atherosclerotic), Alzheimer’s (neurodegenerative), and Diabetes (metabolic disfunction) and combat their appearance in our bodies through exercise. “…My framework for exercise is built upon four pillars: stability (the foundation), strength, aerobic / zone 2 training, & anaerobic / zone 5 training.”
How best can we prepare our mind, body and soul for an enjoyable life experience for as long as possible.
Athletes at many levels of performance seek sponsorship to help pay expenses related to training and competition. Have you ever considered hiring a publicist? OnThree just might be an option for you. We all have our own stories to share, maybe yours aligns with a brand or product that could benefit from advertising through your story?
